States of America is a collection of works that attempts to unpack complex notions of patriotism in rural America. While people do not feature directly, individual lives are at the heart of each painting. Pride in the face of economic disparities and political tension manifest across seemingly mundane landscapes. Together, the works seek to highlight how beauty and neglect, humanity and hardship can precariously coexist.
